Set the scene
If you're looking for tranquillity, you can find it in a tropical oasis on offshore Sentosa Island. This Norman Foster-designed hotel is partly housed in colonial buildings, and the standing lamps, rugs, and 20th-century-style travel trunks in the low-key lobby project old-world charm.
The rooms
The lead-in category premier rooms are generously sized, with great views of the hotel's verdant gardens. The modern plantation-style decor – lots of warm earthy colours and a touch of rattan – suitably echoes the languid tropical surroundings. The extra-large, super king beds are a treat in themselves; the crisp Frette linens are just the icing on the cake. For even more luxury, look to the refreshed Capella and Colonial Manors – these residence-like, three-bedroom, standalone bungalows have their own private terraces and pools. Personalised host service by a team of “Manor Culturists” keeps guests peppy and pampered, right down to making sure your fridge never runs out of Champagne.
The spa
The property has three pools – one for adults only, one for families, and a lap pool. Hotel guests get to use some of the award-winning Auriga Spa's facilities, like the steam room, for free.
The neighbourhood/area
There's a shortcut from the hotel to Sentosa's Palawan Beach; be warned that the walk back up is rather steep.
For families
Families with young children are welcome here (the rooms are spacious enough to accommodate active kids).
Anything left to mention?
Capella shows off a different side to Singapore – away from the hustle and bustle of the business district and the shopping strips. It's one of the most expensive hotels here, but it's also a great escape from the daily grind – and isn't that priceless? Plus, it's little things here – like the complimentary mini bar and free garment pressing – that make you feel like the hotel has everything taken care of and you can truly unwind.
